Ningbo’s cross-border e-commerce “air-air combined transport” is implemented to help “Made in Ningbo” go overseas efficiently

On April 11, a cross-border e-commerce "air-to-air" express route connecting Ningbo and Ezhou Airport was launched. This model enhances logistics efficiency and reduces costs; supported by streamlined customs procedures, it opens up a new export channel for Ningbo's cross-border e-commerce enterprises.

On the morning of April 11, a batch of cross-border e-commerce export goods named shoes were supervised by Ningbo Airport Customs and will take off on an SF Airlines flight in the early morning of the 12th.
This batch of goods will be transferred directly to Ezhou Huahu International Airport, and then connected to the intercontinental cargo route to fly directly to the United States.
This marks the official launch of the cross-border e-commerce “air-air transport” express line from Ningbo to the international air cargo hub Ezhou Airport, adding a new way for “Made in Ningbo” to efficiently go overseas.

“The problem that has troubled us for many years has finally been solved.” Looking at the packages that were quickly cleared through customs and ready for dispatch in the assembly line, Xing Yutao, the port manager of Ningbo SF Express Co., Ltd., was deeply touched as one of the first companies to taste the benefits of the policy.
Xing Yutao introduced that most of the customers of small and medium-sized cross-border e-commerce companies in Ningbo and surrounding areas place orders urgently and meet the deadlines.
In the past, there were always two unavoidable obstacles in going overseas: on the one hand, during major sales and holiday seasons, direct flights to popular routes in Europe and the United States were “hard to get”, and space was so tight that cargo was often stranded for two or three days; on the other hand, for many overseas destinations, Ningbo Airport did not have direct cargo routes. If you wanted to meet deadlines, you could only transport the goods from the Ningbo warehouse to the airports of surrounding big cities.
The back and forth not only delays the delivery schedule, but also adds up to transit warehousing and transportation. Logistics costs remain high and the already meager profits are severely compressed.

The new cross-border e-commerce “air-air transport” model launched in Ningbo has completely broken this deadlock.
The “air-air combined transport” model refers to the multimodal transport model in which goods are transported through different airports through customs transit under customs supervision and finally arrive at the destination.
To put it simply, the goods are under customs supervision throughout the entire process. There is no need to go through additional entry and exit, and repeated customs declaration and inspection processes during transit, which eliminates a lot of tedious links. It not only improves the timeliness of customs clearance and transportation of export goods, but also reduces corporate cargo warehousing fees and other operating costs.

“The international route network of Ezhou Airport is very complete. Now we ship goods from Ningbo, and you can catch an intercontinental flight on the same day as soon as you transfer through customs. The timeliness has doubled, and the logistics cost has also been reduced a lot.”

Paying close attention to the urgent needs of cross-border e-commerce companies, Ningbo Airport Customs proactively provides forward-looking services: conducting in-depth visits to investigate the company’s capacity needs, identifying customs clearance congestion points, and tailoring an exclusive air-air transport supervision plan; at the same time, it proactively links up with Ezhou Airport and local customs to establish a collaborative service model of “one declaration, smooth customs transfer, and fast exit”, eliminating the need for multiple errands for companies to communicate.

Not only that, the customs also opened a green channel for intermodal customs clearance at the supervision site to ensure the rapid collection and distribution of “air-air intermodal transport” cross-border e-commerce goods.
According to Chen Jian, chief of the Express Mail Supervision Section of Ningbo Airport Customs, after the implementation of this optimized process, cross-border package customs clearance time can be shortened by about 30%, and the overall customs clearance cost of enterprises can be saved by more than 20%.

A new channel activates a game of overseas chess.
The implementation of the cross-border e-commerce “air-air combined transport” model can not only effectively alleviate the pressure on Ningbo’s direct flight routes during the peak season, but also firmly combine Ningbo’s port location advantages with the route advantages of large domestic cargo airports.
In the future, Ningbo’s cross-border e-commerce companies will no longer be limited to existing direct flights, but will have a low-cost, high-timeliness, and super-flexible channel to go to sea.

With the rapid development of the cross-border e-commerce industry, companies going overseas to seize orders increasingly value the diversity and stability of logistics links.
The person in charge of Ningbo Airport Customs said that in the next step, the multimodal logistics system will continue to be improved, route resources will be further revitalized, customs clearance services will be optimized, and air sea channels will be continuously expanded.
With practical and convenient policies and heart-warming and meticulous enterprise-friendly services, we will ensure that more good things from Ningbo are sold around the world, and continue to polish Ningbo’s first-class port business environment.
