It is reported in June 2026 that the cross-border payment field will usher in a major merger and acquisition.
Payoneer announced that it has reached a final agreement with Nuvei. Nuvei will acquire Payoneer for approximately US$2.75 billion, and the two parties will work together to build a global cross-border business platform.
According to the plan, the transaction is expected to be completed in mid-2027, but follow-up still needs to go through regular procedures such as voting by Payoneer shareholders and approval by relevant regulatory authorities in various countries.
Judging from the amount, the merger price of US$2.75 billion is also one of the larger integration cases in the cross-border payment field in recent years.

Nuvei, headquartered in Canada, has been deeply involved in the global payment acquiring field for many years.
Its business covers more than 190 countries and regions around the world, can provide local acquiring services in 52 markets, and supports more than 150 currencies and more than 720 non-mainstream payment methods.
In the fields of merchant acquiring, intelligent risk control, anti-fraud, and card issuance, Nuvei has profound technology accumulation and large enterprise customer resources, and is a mainstream payment technology infrastructure service provider in the world.
Payoneer has been rooted in the cross-border collection and payment track for many years, and its core advantages focus on cross-border fund distribution, multi-currency account systems and global banking network layout.
It is deeply integrated with global mainstream e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and Walmart, and mainly serves cross-border e-commerce sellers, small and medium-sized foreign trade companies, and global freelance groups.
Its cross-border B2B collection and payment, multi-platform store fund management, foreign exchange settlement and other services have an outstanding reputation in the industry. It has a huge customer base in emerging markets and small and medium-sized merchant circles, and Greater China is one of its core markets.

As benchmark companies in the global cross-border payment field, Nuvei and Payoneer have certain complementary businesses, which is also the core logic of this merger.
After the integration, the two parties will open up full-chain capabilities such as acquiring, collecting and paying, card issuance, fund management, foreign exchange settlement, embedded finance, etc., and create an integrated cross-border business platform covering the entire life cycle of the enterprise.
It is worth noting that Payoneer received permission from Chinese regulatory authorities in 2025 to complete the acquisition of the licensed payment institution Yilian Payment Co., Ltd. (later changed to “Payoneer Payment (Guangdong) Co., Ltd.”). It obtained the payment license in a curve, which also allowed Payoneer to transform from a foreign-owned operating entity to a local financial service provider in China.
In addition, according to the requirements of Chinese regulatory rules, changes in the actual controller of a licensed payment institution must be reported in advance.
Nuvei’s acquisition of Payoneer will undoubtedly attract widespread attention in the field of cross-border payments and will also bring new opportunities and challenges to the future development of global cross-border commerce.
