China’s smart home market in 2025: new look of all-dimensional intelligence and ecological reconstruction

In 2025, China's smart home sector has entered a new phase of pragmatic maturity, characterized by trends toward specialized smart appliances, systematized whole-home intelligence, and integrated ecosystem networks; competition has intensified, and significant progress has been achieved across the board.

In 2025, China’s smart home field will enter a new stage of development that is more pragmatic and mature due to the multiple resonances of technology, market and ecology.
The driving force of the industry has shifted from early single product networking and concept display to in-depth understanding and value satisfaction of real life scenarios.
The market shows a clear trend of parallel and mutual promotion of the three major trends of smart home appliance specialization, whole-house intelligent systematization, and ecological network integration.
The overall competition has also upgraded from a competition of single product functions to a comprehensive competition covering hardware innovation, system integration, ecological synergy and sustainable service capabilities.

Smart home appliances are moving from “connection” to “cognition”.
As the consumer base and core contact point of the smart home market, smart home appliances will not stop at basic interconnection in 2025. Instead, they will rely on AI large models and vertical scene data to achieve a qualitative change from “execution of instructions” to “active service”.
Its core evolution lies in “scene intelligence” and “professional enhancement”.
For example, Haier refrigerators can proactively manage ingredients, recommend recipes, and link kitchen appliances with built-in visual recognition and nutritional models; Midea washing machines can automatically identify fabrics and stains and independently decide on the optimal washing and care plan.

AI gives home appliances “expert capabilities” in subdivided fields, making them intelligent nodes with deep value in the home.
This type of deeply intelligent single product not only greatly improves the user experience, but also forms a “strong fulcrum” for high-quality whole-house intelligence.
The refined data and scene execution capabilities they generate provide a solid foundation for more complex cross-device collaboration.

From device overlay to scenario-based solutions.
The mainstream paradigm of the market is rapidly shifting from selling smart single products to providing whole-house smart systems that integrate design, delivery, and services.
The basis for building this system is the smart home appliances that already have “cognitive” capabilities as mentioned above.
At present, the market mainly presents two construction paths, which compete with each other and develop in parallel, and jointly promote smart homes from “device networking” to “scenario services”.

Path 1: Traditional home appliance giants represented by Midea, Hisense, Haier, etc. are relying on their deep product line layout and vertical field data to build an active intelligent service system with their own brands as the core.
They are no longer satisfied with producing isolated smart products, but instead use a unified operating system or AI platform to deeply link all categories of home appliances to form scenario-based solutions.
For example, Midea uses “Xiaomei AI Intelligence” as its core brain and integrates it into a full range of products such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines.
The system can not only understand user instructions, but also make independent decisions and collaborate based on the environment, habits and product status. For example, based on the inventory of refrigerator ingredients and user health data, it can recommend and assist in completing healthy meals through linkage with kitchen appliances.
Hisense takes “AI Your Life” as its core concept and relies on its self-developed Xinghai large model to build five major scene intelligence agents, including AI air, AI care, and AI display.
Through the integrated architecture of “device, cloud and core”, different home appliances can share data and computing power to achieve non-sensory continuous services such as “active dehumidification in the bathroom after bathing and early temperature adjustment of the living room air conditioner”.

The core advantage of this path is that based on the in-depth understanding of home appliance functions and data closed loop, it can provide more professional and accurate proactive services in specific life scenarios.

Path 2: Led by technology companies such as Huawei and Xiaomi, its core competitiveness lies in building a unified and open central control system. Through powerful connection protocols and scene engines, it integrates a large number of devices of different brands to provide users with a highly flexible and customized whole-house intelligent framework.

Take Huawei’s whole-house intelligence as an example. It uses the smart host as the “home brain” and builds a stable and efficient “nervous system” through leading communication technology and the distributed capabilities of HarmonyOS.
This system can not only achieve seamless collaboration with Huawei’s own equipment, but also be able to access many third-party brand home appliances through the open ecosystem.
According to data from Aowei Cloud Network, Huawei’s Hongmeng Smart Home has ranked first in the market share of smart home furnishings in fine decoration in 2025, which reflects the widespread recognition of its system-level solutions.
Whether it is “lights that move with your heart” to meet personalized emotions, or fall detection and linkage reminders to ensure the safety of the elderly, they can be efficiently implemented across devices in one system.
Xiaomi’s ThePaper Zhilian Ecosystem also follows a similar logic. Through the Mijia App and central gateway, it also achieves unified scheduling of products in a huge ecological chain.

The core value of this path is to break the brand barriers. Through the unified control layer, interaction layer and data layer, it solves the fundamental pain points of “data islands” and “connection fragmentation”, providing users with broader freedom of choice and a stable system-level experience.

Although the paths are different, both point to the same core: the value of a systematic solution lies in realizing collaborative scheduling and data interoperability of cross-category devices through a unified “brain” and “nerve”, so that technology can truly serve the continuous flow of daily life.
It essentially solves the problems of “space continuity” and “service continuity” that cannot be handled by a single device, and is promoting the transformation of whole-house intelligence from a high-end option to a core component of quality life.

The integration and empowerment of networks, protocols and services.
In 2025, the problems of “connection islands” and “network instability” that restrict smart home experience will be systematically improved at the infrastructure level.
Ecological competition is gradually giving way to openness and cooperation, with the goal of jointly expanding the market and lowering user thresholds.

The key progress is reflected in the deepening of the role of operators. China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, etc. rely on gigabit optical networks and 5G –
Network A not only provides high-speed connections, but also integrates with smart home solutions to provide exclusive and stable network slicing services, which fundamentally guarantees the reliability of collaboration between whole-house devices and the cloud. Second, breakthroughs in interconnection and the accelerated popularization of common protocols such as Matter have significantly reduced the complexity of multi-brand device integration and increased consumers’ freedom of choice. Third, service models have continued to innovate, and integrated packages of “network + terminal + scenario services” have become increasingly popular, effectively lowering the threshold for users’ one-time investment.

The synergy between ecology and infrastructure provides stable soil for the prosperity of upper-level applications.
Whether it is a deeply intelligent single product or a complex whole-house system, it can run and iterate in a more reliable and open environment, thereby promoting the entire market to accelerate the evolution towards scale and civilianization.

Overall, China’s smart home market in 2025 presents a clear picture of “a combination of points and aspects, a combination of soft and hard measures, and infrastructure support”.
In the future, the three major dimensions will be further integrated: smart home appliances will become smarter “executive organs” in whole-house intelligence, while the whole-house system will provide home appliances with richer scene data and collaboration possibilities, all carried by efficient and reliable network and computing infrastructure.

Smart Home is truly becoming a digital life form that evolves organically and continues to grow.
