Recently, the National Building Materials Home Boom Index (BHI), a project initiated by the Circulation Industry Development Department of the Ministry of Commerce and newly released by the China Building Materials Circulation Association, showed that in February 2026, the BHI was 102.03, a month-on-month decrease of 1.81 points and a year-on-year decrease of 7.55 points.
Sales of building materials and home furnishing stores above designated size nationwide were 86.858 billion yuan in February, down 21.47% month-on-month and 13.54% year-on-year.
Cumulative sales from January to February 2026 were 197.459 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 5.80%.

The Industry Research Department of the China Building Materials Circulation Association interpreted the BHI data for this issue. In February 2026, the traditional off-season was superimposed on the Spring Festival holiday (mid-February) and other factors. The overall BHI continued to decline slightly, which is in line with seasonal patterns.
The new housing market is operating smoothly, especially the continued release of improvement demand, which still provides stable demand support for mid-to-high-end building materials and home products.
The second-hand housing market continues to operate in a “price-for-volume” operation, and the renovation market for existing properties is the core force for the building materials and home furnishing industry to remain stable.
With the end of the Spring Festival holiday, the real estate market has gradually entered the traditional “Little Indian Spring” cycle, which will further drive the release of demand for building materials and home furnishings, laying the foundation for the rebound of BHI.
Judging from the performance of each sub-indices of BHI, the ‘Managers Confidence Index’, which is the leading index, performed outstandingly. This month’s value reached 196.42 points, an increase of 115.70 points month-on-month and an increase of 8.94 points year-on-year. The sharp rebound reflects the significantly enhanced confidence of industry operators in the market recovery after the Spring Festival, and also injects confidence into the subsequent recovery of the industry.

Keywords such as ‘consumer goods trade-in for new’, ‘good houses’, ‘silver economy’ and ‘green and low carbon’ in the 2026 Government Work Report have pointed out the path for the high-quality development of the building materials and home furnishing industry.
The China Building Materials Circulation Association recommends that building materials and home furnishing companies across the country strengthen their confidence in the long-term development of the industry, seize policy opportunities, and rely on the rigid demand of the existing housing redecoration market to further release market resilience.
Although BHI dropped slightly in February, judging from the market’s performance in many aspects, the building materials and home furnishing market still contains huge potential.
The stability of the new home market and the support of improvement demand, the “price-for-volume” in the second-hand home market and the stability of the existing home redecoration market have all provided a solid foundation for the development of the industry.
At the same time, the sharp rebound in the ‘Managers’ Confidence Index’ also shows that industry practitioners are confident about the future market.
Under the guidance of government policies, building materials and home furnishing companies should actively adjust their strategies, seize opportunities, and promote the development of the industry in a high-quality, green, and low-carbon direction to meet the changing needs of the market and achieve sustainable development of the industry.
