Aptiv and Comau recently announced a cooperation.
As a global leader in industrial technology and a pioneer in the field of industrial automation, the two parties will jointly explore a new generation of intelligent automation solutions to help industrial customers achieve safer, more efficient and more autonomous operations.

According to the cooperation memorandum signed by both parties, the two companies will establish a strategic cooperation framework and focus on evaluating joint development opportunities in the fields of advanced robotics, autonomous systems, and automated warehousing and logistics systems.
Jay Bellissimo, Senior Vice President and President of Intelligent Systems and Software Business at Aptiv
Said: “Robotics and industrial automation are entering a new stage of development. Today, systems can rely on edge computing to achieve real-time perception, decision-making and execution. By cooperating with Comau, we plan to combine Aptiv’s leading perception, computing and software capabilities with Comau’s deep experience in robotics and large-scale industrial deployment. Our goal is to help customers create smarter and safer automation solutions and reduce the cost and complexity that have long restricted industry adoption.”
Giovanni Volpes, CEO of Comau Greater Europe
Said: “The cooperation between Comau and Aptiv is a deep integration of the advantages and capabilities of both parties. With our complementary technical strengths, we will provide customers with advanced robots and digital solutions, help enterprises in various industries accelerate operational upgrades, promote the application of artificial intelligence technology, and jointly embrace an industrial future with independent productivity as the core driving force.”

This cooperation plan will integrate Aptiv’s leading product portfolio, including the mature Wind River edge software platform, PULSE™ sensors and high-performance connectivity solutions, with Comau’s rich experience in advanced automation technology, robotic systems and the deployment of global complex manufacturing scenarios.
The first phase of the cooperation between the two parties will focus on four high-value application scenarios in the field of industrial automation:
● Cutting-edge robotics technology: Jointly develop a new generation of perception solutions and computing reference architectures for autonomous mobile robots (AMR), collaborative robots (CoBot) and other autonomous platforms, and rely on Comau’s real production scenarios for verification to accelerate the implementation of the technology.
● AI Empowers Warehousing and Logistics Automation: Comau’s EuroDirector logistics software is upgraded, combined with Wind River cloud and edge technologies, to deploy AI/machine learning capabilities on the edge to improve the intelligence level, real-time response capabilities and full life cycle management efficiency of the logistics system.
● High-performance interconnection technology for industrial environments: Developing ruggedized cables, micro and modular connectors, and wire harness assemblies for high-demand robot application scenarios to achieve better lightweight performance while ensuring performance and durability.
● Industrial security based on radar and vision: Create an innovative security architecture and integrate deterministic computing and multi-area monitoring to improve personnel safety while reducing system complexity and deployment costs.
This cooperation builds on the long-term cooperation between the two parties: Comau industrial controllers have long used the Wind River VxWorks system, and Aptiv’s manufacturing plants have already widely deployed Comau robots.
Based on this solid foundation, the cooperation between the two parties will further expand to wider product and technology fields such as perception, computing, sensing and connection.
Faced with increasingly complex industrial automation challenges, Aptiv and Comau share a common vision – to make advanced technologies more accessible, easier to deploy, and easier to create value.
Both parties will continue to launch solutions that are smarter, safer, and closely aligned with customers’ actual operational needs.
