In today’s economic wave of globalization, the convenience of cross-border payments is crucial to promoting international economic and trade exchanges and personnel exchanges.
Recently, Mexico’s cross-border payment experience has undergone a major upgrade, and UnionPay International and Getnet have opened a new chapter in their cooperation.
Getnet, a subsidiary of Santander Bank Group, is one of the largest acquirers in Latin America and has been deeply involved in the local market.
It serves more than 100,000 merchants, covering a wide range of high-frequency consumption scenarios such as hotels, transportation, theme parks, and performance ticketing.
These scenes are closely related to people’s daily lives and travel, providing consumers with a wealth of consumption choices.

China UnionPay has been operating in Latin America for 20 years. Through long-term cooperation with local mainstream institutions, its business has expanded to 22 countries.
In 5 countries including Peru and Ecuador, the merchant acceptance rate reaches approximately 90%; in countries such as Argentina and Panama, full ATM acceptance coverage is achieved.
At the same time, in order to comply with the development trend of digital payment, UnionPay has opened more than 3 million contactless terminals in 8 countries including Brazil and Argentina, and connected them to online merchants such as Didi, Uber, and Rappi, continuing to provide strong financial support for personnel exchanges and economic and trade exchanges between China and APEC Latin American member states.
Based on the complementary advantages of both parties in the field of cross-border payment, a cooperation aimed at improving the cross-border payment experience in Mexico was officially launched.
On April 22, 2026, UnionPay International and Getnet jointly announced the official launch of UnionPay card acceptance business in the Mexican market, fully supporting multiple payment methods such as card swiping, QR code scanning and mobile Pay.
Dong Junfeng, Chairman of China UnionPay and Chairman of UnionPay International, and Pablo Jimenez, CEO of Getnet Mexico, attended the business opening ceremony.

With the launch of its business, all Getnet’s POS terminals in Mexico have supported UnionPay contactless payment, and UnionPay online acceptance channels have been opened simultaneously, achieving full coverage of online and offline payment scenarios.
The impact of this cooperation is manifold.
For cross-border business travelers, they will enjoy a more convenient and efficient payment experience when booking before traveling and making local purchases, without having to worry about payment methods.
For local merchants, this cooperation will help them attract UnionPay high-end cardholders and expand their cross-border consumer customers, thereby further promoting the development of the local economy.
The cooperation between UnionPay International and Getnet is not only an important breakthrough for both parties in the field of cross-border payment, but also injects new vitality into Mexico’s economic development and international exchanges.
It is believed that in the future, as the cooperation between the two parties continues to deepen, cross-border payments will become more convenient and safer, making greater contributions to the development of the global economy.
