Against the backdrop of the rapid expansion of the global digital economy, Thailand’s smart device industry is ushering in a golden period of sustained growth, accelerating to become an important regional smart device production and export base.
The latest data from the Trade Policy and Strategy Office of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand shows that the scale of Thailand’s smart device industry is expected to reach 408 billion baht in 2025, with an average annual growth rate of 11.68% between 2017 and 2025.
Among them, the smart home market reached 95 billion baht, and the smart wearable device market reached 11.4 billion baht.
In terms of exports, Thailand’s performance is very impressive.
The export value of smart wearable devices reached US$517 million, a year-on-year increase of 16.38%; and the export value of smart home products reached US$19.17 billion, a year-on-year increase of 86.49%.
Currently, Thailand has become the world’s ninth largest exporter of smart devices, and its import scale ranks 27th in the world. This fully reflects Thailand’s important manufacturing and export status in the global technology product supply chain.
In terms of imports, Thailand’s smart wearable device imports will reach US$659 million in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 9.33%; smart home product imports will reach US$4.224 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25.38%.
From a global market perspective, global smart device imports will total US$534.061 billion in 2024, and total exports will reach US$541.172 billion.
The global smart device market size will be approximately US$49 billion in 2022, with an expected average annual growth rate of 15% from 2022 to 2030.
Analysis believes that there are many main factors driving the growth of the smart device industry.
The energy-saving trend makes consumers more inclined to choose smart energy-saving devices; the expansion of 5G and digital infrastructure provides a more stable and faster network environment for the operation of smart devices; the development of an aging society has increased the demand for smart wearable devices such as health monitoring; carbon reduction policies have promoted the research and development and production of smart energy-saving devices; the standardization of smart parts has reduced production costs and improved production efficiency; accelerated urbanization has increased the demand for smart home and other equipment.
At the same time, the Thai government has proposed six major development directions to enhance industrial competitiveness.
Promote system integration so that smart devices can work better together; establish a standardized supply chain to improve production efficiency and product quality; strengthen strategic trade partnerships and expand markets; promote sustainable industrial development in line with global environmental protection trends; stimulate domestic market demand and promote intra-industry circulation; increase the proportion of local raw materials and local content, reduce costs and enhance industrial autonomy.
The Thai government believes that if it can continue to improve the industrial chain and promote technological upgrading, the smart device industry will not only enhance the competitiveness of Thailand’s digital economy in the future, but is also expected to become a new engine to promote the growth of manufacturing and exports.
