Smart home industry innovation, development and standardization conference was successfully held in Shanghai

On March 12, 2026, the "Conference on the Innovative Development and Standardization of the Smart Home Industry" was grandly held in Shanghai. Representatives from government, industry, academia, research institutions, and user sectors gathered to discuss the development and standardization of the smart home industry and to drive the comprehensive implementation of interconnectivity initiatives.

On the afternoon of March 12, 2026, the “Smart Home Industry Innovation Development and Standardization Conference” was held grandly at the Radisson Hotel, Oriental Hub, Shanghai.
He Yaqiong, Director of the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Cao Yiding, Director of the Information Technology and Automation Standards Division of the Standard Technology Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation and other relevant department leaders attended and delivered important speeches. More than 200 people from the China Household Electrical Appliances Research Institute, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Electronics Technology Standardization Institute, Haier, Midea, Huawei, Xiaomi and other government, industry, academia, research and application representatives attended the event to witness this milestone industry event.
The meeting was chaired by Yan Ling, Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Household Appliances.

At the beginning of the meeting, Liu Ting, President of the China Household Electrical Appliances Research Institute, delivered a welcome speech.
He pointed out that new generation technologies such as artificial intelligence, generative large models, 6G, and humanoid robots are accelerating the integration with smart homes, and interconnection has become a key support to achieve high-quality development of the industry; the Institute of Home Appliances will continue to promote the in-depth implementation of smart home interconnection work, further carry out interconnection standard compliance verification and test evaluation, explore reusable and promoteable technology demonstration paths, and make new and greater contributions to promoting high-quality development of the industry.

He Yaqiong, Director of the Department of Consumer Goods Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, highly affirmed the achievements of the innovative development of the smart home industry in his speech.
He pointed out that smart home is not only an important carrier to cultivate digital consumption and build a better life, but also a concrete embodiment of new productivity in the field of people’s livelihood.
At the same time, it emphasized the need to adhere to the innovation drive, strengthen standards guidance, cultivate an open ecosystem, accelerate the large-scale implementation of interconnection standards, and create a number of characteristic scenarios such as whole-house intelligence, active energy conservation, and elderly care, so that smart life can benefit hundreds of millions of families.

Cao Yiding, Director of the Information Technology and Automation Standards Division of the Standards and Technology Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, explained the strategic value of standardization work from the perspective of the national governance system, pointing out that standards are the key link to open the “technology-industry-consumption” closed loop in the “artificial intelligence +” action, and emphasized three work orientations: adhere to forward-looking layout and build a new standard system that leads industrial change; strengthen the closed loop of value to improve the actual effectiveness of standards in empowering new productivity; and adhere to joint construction and win-win results.

The core part of the conference is the “Smart Home Interconnection Work Launch” ceremony.
Witnessed by the audience, representatives from the government, scientific research institutes, and smart home companies jointly pressed the start device, marking the full launch of the smart home interconnection work to systematically solve long-term problems such as “product islands”, “ecological barriers” and “protocol fragmentation”.

Subsequently, Qu Zongfeng, deputy director of the China Household Appliances Research Institute, systematically introduced the progress of standard development: At present, five mandatory national standard drafts have been formed, including “Smart Home Interconnection Part 1: LAN Access Requirements”, covering the entire technology chain from underlying connection, interactive control, product modeling to security baselines; the standard formulation adheres to “opening the door to set standards”, and will widely involve enterprises from up and down the smart home industry chain to participate, and promote the early release and implementation of standards.

Wei Ran, chief engineer of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, proposed that the national standards for smart home interconnection will be taken as the guide, and we will actively carry out the formulation of supporting standards, open source development and chip module adaptation, product scale and interconnection infrastructure construction, scenario innovation and application demonstration, joint debugging and testing, and public services to accelerate the formation of a new pattern of high-quality development of the smart home industry.
At the same time, the Academy of Information and Communications Technology will also promote the establishment of a “Smart Home Interconnection Industry Alliance” and create a national-level open source community.

Luo Fafa, secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the China Electronics Standardization Institute, said that the Electronic Standards Institute has joined forces with the Institute of Home Appliances, the Institute of Information and Communications Technology and other units to establish an “Application Management Working Group”, which will be responsible for testing capacity building, authorized laboratory construction and selection, label management, and product testing and filing. The “International Standardization Working Group” has also been established to continue to promote the internationalization of smart home standards based on my country’s profound accumulation in ISO, IEC, ITU and other organizations.

The meeting also released the “Smart Home Interconnection Action Initiative”.
The initiative was read out by Cui Zhen, Vice President of Haier Smart Home. 83 companies and institutions, including Haier, Midea, Huawei, Xiaomi, Gree, etc., were the first to sign the initiative, covering the entire chain of chips, modules, complete machines, platforms, construction, and services.

There were many highlights in the enterprise sharing session. Midea Group’s whole-house smart technology standard expert Dong Chuchu, Huawei’s vice president of terminal IoT product line Wu Haijun, and Xiaomi’s IoT networking R&D director Lin Bing respectively brought cutting-edge practices.
Midea builds the deep intelligence of the home based on the interconnection of multiple categories and full links, realizing the cross-space and cross-scenario requirements of “people-car-home” and creating a home product integration matrix; Huawei focuses on the “1+3+N free building block architecture” and proves the success of the open path with the ecological scale of Hongmeng Intelligent Connected devices exceeding 800 million; Xiaomi proposes a new paradigm of spatial intelligence, “environmental perception + intention understanding + multi-device collaboration” to enhance the actual experience of end users.

Finally, the final “roundtable dialogue” became the peak of ideological confrontation.
Seven guests from Haier, Yu Lianghuan, Midea Shangzhe, Huawei Wu Haijun, Xiaomi Liu Haitao, China Mobile Shi Chao, Op Ma Zhiwei, and Boya Zhongke He Xin had in-depth discussions on five major topics, including the pain points and challenges of smart home interconnection, how companies can break through, and new breakthroughs in the context of “artificial intelligence +”, and gathered more consensus.
