Shenzhen-listed companies are expanding overseas: their foreign trade businesses are booming and they are exploring new global markets.

In the first four months of 2025, my country's foreign trade in goods showed a positive trend; companies listed on the Shenzhen market actively expanded into overseas markets by leveraging their experience and strategies, with many leading enterprises seeing rapid growth in their foreign trade operations and some achieving new breakthroughs through initiatives such as participating in trade exhibitions and tapping into emerging markets.

According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in the first four months of 2025, my country’s total import and export value of goods reached 14.14 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.4%, of which exports reached 8.39 trillion yuan, an increase of 7.5%. In April, my country’s total import and export value of goods reached 3.84 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.6%, with exports reaching 2.27 trillion yuan, an increase of 9.3%. Against the backdrop of a complex international trade environment, Shenzhen-listed companies have demonstrated strong resilience and vitality. Annual report data shows that in 2024, 2,007 Shenzhen-listed companies achieved overseas revenue of 4.18 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.62%. Five companies—Luxshare Precision, BYD, Midea Group, Weichai Power, and CATL—had overseas business revenue exceeding 100 billion yuan. Export-oriented companies saw further growth, with total revenue reaching RMB 1.78 trillion in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%, and net profit reaching RMB 122.996 billion, a year-on-year increase of 26.36%. Multiple sectors, including computers, communications, and electronics, experienced double-digit growth in both revenue and net profit. Since the beginning of this year, some leading companies listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange have seen rapid growth in their export businesses. BYD’s new energy vehicle sales exceeded 380,100 units in April, a year-on-year increase of 21.3%, with overseas exports reaching 78,700 units, a surge of 91.9% year-on-year, setting a new record. Cumulative exports in the first quarter of 2025 reached 206,100 units, with a significant increase in the export share. Changan Automobile’s overseas sales in January 2025 reached 62,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 10%, entering the top three of China’s automobile export brands for the first time, with continued growth in overseas markets. CATL’s power battery sales in the European market increased year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, with its market share rising from 17% in 2021 to 38% in 2024, ranking first and continuing to rise this year. Midea Group’s overseas sales of air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines increased by 20%, 15%, and 10% respectively in the first quarter of this year, with overseas e-commerce sales growing by over 50% year-on-year. XCMG’s overseas revenue increased from 29.67% in 2022 to 45.48% in 2024, and both operating revenue and net profit increased in the first quarter of this year. At numerous top international exhibitions, Shenzhen-listed companies actively showcased their innovative capabilities. At the 2025 Mobile World Congress, the number of Chinese companies participating reached a record high of 344, and Shenzhen Mindray Medical signed cooperation agreements with several top-tier laboratories and institutions, with its overseas business expected to continue its high growth. Some Shenzhen-listed companies are also proactively exploring emerging markets. Unilumin Technology has a balanced global sales network and has acquired a US company to achieve localized production and distribution, enhancing its bargaining power through technological innovation and product upgrades. Topband has a wide distribution of overseas customers and a multi-regional production base layout, which reduces tariff risks and is expected to increase its market share in the future as the industry chain is restructured.
