In the first quarter of 2026, Nanchang’s foreign trade import and export delivered a brilliant answer. Both imports, exports and exports achieved double-digit growth. The total volume ranked first in the province and set a new high for the same period. It achieved a “good start” and led the province in double-digit growth.

In March, the city’s total import and export value was 27.87 billion yuan, ranking first among districts and cities in the province and hitting a new high for the same period, with a year-on-year growth of 17.2%, which was 2.2 percentage points and 1.2 percentage points higher than the national and provincial average growth rates respectively.
Among them, exports were 19.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17%; imports were 7.97 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 17.8%. Imports and exports achieved simultaneous and steady growth, showing a good trend of “stable quantity and improved quality”, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality development of foreign trade in the first year of the “15th Five-Year Plan”.
Since the beginning of this year, Nanchang City’s business system has anchored the goal of “stabilizing scale and optimizing structure”, and has taken multiple measures to make precise efforts. The majority of foreign trade companies have proactively recognized changes and actively explored markets, jointly promoting the rapid growth of foreign trade in the first quarter.
In terms of business entities, in the first quarter of this year, there were 1,260 foreign trade companies with import and export performance in the city, a year-on-year increase of 13%, and the scale of foreign trade entities has steadily expanded.
Key leading enterprises have performed outstandingly. Huaqin Electronics, Jiangling, Dongshen Knitting and other industry leading import and export volumes have achieved more than 20% growth, and a pattern of coordinated development of large, medium and small enterprises has been further formed.
The market layout has become more diversified, and emerging markets are growing rapidly.
As of the end of March, Nanchang’s foreign trade partners have reached 200 countries and regions around the world, and positive progress has been made in trade diversification.
Among them, imports and exports to ASEAN were 5.45 billion yuan, an increase of 44%; imports and exports to the EU were 2.34 billion yuan, an increase of 5.8%; imports and exports to Africa were 1.9 billion yuan, a surge of 136.5%; imports and exports to countries jointly building the “Belt and Road” were 15.8 billion yuan, an increase of 38%. The diversified and stable international market network continued to be consolidated.
The leading industries are also making efforts to break through, and the product structure is new and optimized.
In the first quarter, the city’s production-oriented enterprises achieved import and export of 20 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%, accounting for 72% of the city’s total import and export value, and the role of industrial support is highlighted.
The leading industries in foreign trade performed well. Automobiles (including chassis) achieved exports of 5.08 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 74.3%; textiles and clothing achieved exports of 2.91 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%.
The export of high-tech products has strong momentum. The export of automatic data processing equipment and parts was 3.27 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.9%; the export of notebook computers was 2.63 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 42%; the export of electronic components was 1.09 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 86.8%. The pace of high-end and intelligent upgrading of foreign trade products accelerated.
Achievements cannot be achieved without precise policy empowerment and strong service guarantees.
Since the beginning of this year, Nanchang City has focused on the urgent needs and worries of enterprises and launched a “combination punch” to help enterprises bail out and expand the market to stabilize orders.
Actively expand foreign demand channels, build docking bridges, organize a number of special events, promote accurate docking between foreign buyers and local foreign trade companies, and open up supply and demand blockages.
Expand overseas markets, organize companies to participate in a number of internationally renowned exhibitions, lead companies to “go out” to expand markets and find business opportunities, and effectively increase the international exposure and market share of Nanchang products.
It also continuously strengthens policy assistance, accurately solves problems, organizes enterprises to participate in various special activities, and popularizes policies that benefit enterprises; it establishes a directory of key enterprises, carries out “one-on-one” assistance, and promptly solves the actual difficulties of enterprises.
Increase financial support, ease financial pressure, and work with relevant institutions to insure export credit insurance and issue policy-based low-interest loans for enterprises, build a solid defense line against foreign trade risks, and inject financial vitality into enterprise development.
