my country’s more than 800 national standards for the machinery industry will support the high-quality development of high-end equipment

A vice president of the China Machinery Industry Federation stated that more than 60 technical committees are advancing the development of over 800 national standards for the machinery industry, thereby guiding and supporting high-end equipment manufacturing and high-quality development across multiple fronts.

“Many people think that machinery is a traditional industry, but ‘traditional’ does not mean outdated. The current national standards for the machinery industry have become the ‘base’ and ‘bridge’ for the development of new industries and the research and development of new technologies.” Song Zhiming, vice president of the China Machinery Industry Federation, said at the relevant press conference.
Currently, more than 60 standards committees are responsible for standard upgrading work and are promoting the development of more than 800 national standards, covering the entire industry chain of R&D and design, production and manufacturing, inspection and testing, and application services.

The machinery industry is a basic, strategic and pillar industry for the development of the national economy and the “ballast stone” of industrial manufacturing.
The standardization work of the machinery industry has always been closely aligned with industry needs and deeply integrated with technological innovation and industrial transformation.
The national standards for the machinery industry mainly involve sub-sectors such as basic technology, general machinery, basic components, machine tools, engineering machinery, agricultural machinery, internal combustion engines, mining machinery, and electrical appliances.

Song Zhiming introduced that the national standards of the machinery industry are leading and supporting the manufacturing and high-quality development of my country’s high-end equipment from the following three aspects.

First, mechanical standards are leading more high-end equipment to the middle and high end of the value chain.
For example, in the field of core parts and components, relevant departments are revising a batch of bearing standards to improve high-speed, high-precision, and extreme working conditions technical requirements, enhance the global competitiveness of domestic parts and components, and support key products such as industrial base engines to achieve independent controllability; in the field of heavy-duty gas turbines, a series of standards for large-scale castings and forgings have been introduced to accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements; in the field of general machinery, standards for centrifugal pumps and fully welded ball valves are further optimized to improve product efficiency and lifespan to meet the needs of key national projects such as the West-East Gas Transmission.

Second, mechanical standards are driving the digital and intelligent transformation of key equipment.
Relevant departments are building an intelligent equipment standard system to help realize AI intelligent maintenance and flexible production; launching a number of unmanned standards such as Beidou automatic driving for agricultural machinery, accelerating the upgrade of agricultural production from traditional manual farming mode to efficient operations and unmanned operations; formulating compressor monitoring standards to promote the shift from post-event maintenance to preventive maintenance; improving the trustworthy protection standards of machine tool CNC systems and building a solid line of defense for intelligent manufacturing safety.

Third, machinery standards are supporting the green and low-carbon development of the industry.
Relevant departments are building an energy efficiency assessment system for internal combustion engines, etc., using classification guidance and limit values to promote energy conservation and carbon reduction; they are developing general standards for the remanufacturing of mechanical products and building a high-value recycling and remanufacturing system for used products.

Song Zhiming emphasized that in short, the traditional machinery industry is not an “old antique”, but is constantly innovating.
National standards for the machinery industry are hard rules for transforming new technologies into good products and good industries. They are an indispensable and important support for the high-quality development of my country’s manufacturing industry.
