Midea Smart Home: Ten years of accumulation, waiting for the east wind of interconnection to start a qualitative change in the industry

During the 2026 Appliance & Electronics World Expo (AWE) in China, Midea held a launch event for its whole-home intelligence strategy, unveiling its "Three-One" strategy. Shang Zhe, General Manager of Midea’s Whole-Home Intelligence division, noted that the smart home sector has already gone through three stages of evolution; after a decade of dedicated development, Midea is fully prepared—awaiting only the final push toward device interoperability—and the industry is poised for a qualitative transformation over the next three years.

During the 2026 China Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics Expo (AWE2026), Midea held the 2026 Midea Whole House Intelligence Strategy Conference and proposed the “Three Ones” strategy for whole house intelligence.
This strategy announced that it will build a smart home that can understand, perceive and proactively serve users through a home grid, a smart brain, and an open platform.

At the press conference, Midea launched MevoX, a self-evolving home intelligence with core capabilities such as high-order reasoning and continuous memory, realizing a comprehensive upgrade of whole-house intelligence from single product intelligence, system intelligence to multi-agent collaboration.
It can conduct unified scheduling and optimal decision-making for the entire house’s equipment, realizing “autonomous driving” of the home.
Users only need to issue instructions through the core interactive carrier “Xiaomei AI” to “control the whole family in one sentence.”

According to Midea, Midea has invested more than 60 billion yuan in R&D in the past five years, and will continue to invest more than 60 billion yuan in the next three years, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as AI and embodied intelligence.
Shang Zhe, general manager of Midea Whole House Intelligence, pointed out in communication with the media, “The transformation of artificial intelligence has made the entire industry see that smart home is a strategic direction, so everyone is accelerating the intelligent transformation. Midea has been making smart homes for 10 years and has always adhered to the right path.”

Shang Zhe believes that smart homes have actually gone through three stages.
The first stage is to use mobile phones to control home appliances. It is more convenient to turn on the air conditioner and turn off the TV without having to find the remote control.
The second stage is the explosion of smart speakers, which serve as control centers and allow users to operate home appliances with just one word.
Nowadays, due to the AI revolution, both home appliance manufacturers, smart home manufacturers and traditional manufacturers believe that smart home is a strategic direction and are accelerating intelligent transformation.

However, everything is ready to realize “autonomous home driving”. All it needs is the interconnection of devices.
This results in the smart home experience for home users still being fragmented. Users still need to download a lot of apps and buy a lot of Internet gateways.
Shang Zhe said that smart homes are now ready from data to basic algorithm capabilities, but they are still promoting the construction of a domestic overall openness or interconnection basis so that devices from different manufacturers can understand each other.

As for the central issue of smart home solutions, many solutions on the market are promoting “smart screens” as central controls, and Midea hopes that the interaction will be distributed.
Midea is naturally strong in the field of central air conditioning. Users have air conditioners and monitors in their homes. Midea hopes to turn these devices into smart screens so that each area such as air conditioners and refrigerators has independent entrances to form a “legion” for users to use in different spaces.

At this year’s two sessions, Midea CFO Zhong Zheng proposed to promote the establishment of a unified and mandatory national standard for “smart home interconnection”.
Shang Zhe believes that judging from future trends, AI capabilities and underlying capabilities are already available, and device interconnection is currently a shortcoming.
And there are very few companies that can make all the home appliances that users need, so it is inevitable to proactively interconnect with other companies.

Shang Zhe believes that in the next three years, interconnection will gradually be implemented in China, and the “integrated experience of Midea” will become an “integrated experience of the industry”, and the industry will undergo qualitative changes.
Looking forward 5 or 10 years, products such as embodied robots will truly enter the home.
Now that robots can perform nunchucks on the Spring Festival Gala, the future development of smart homes is really worth looking forward to.
