Midea Smart Home: Breakthroughs and challenges coexist, looking forward to future development

As a globally renowned home appliance brand, Midea has achieved significant breakthroughs in the smart home sector. The company has seen substantial revenue growth in its smart home business, delivered outstanding technological innovations, and demonstrated excellent market performance, though it also faces challenges such as industry competition and interoperability issues. Looking ahead, Midea plans to increase investment in research and development to drive the transition from device-level intelligence to scenario-based intelligence.

The question of whether Midea can make a breakthrough in the smart home field now has an answer.
Midea has made substantial breakthroughs in the smart home field.
As the world’s number one brand in smart home appliance sales in 2025, its smart home business revenue is close to 300 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of more than 11%. Behind this is the comprehensive evolution of technology, market and ecology.

In terms of technological breakthroughs, Midea’s smart homes no longer just connect home appliances to the Internet, but allow them to “think.”
The company has established an AI R&D team of more than 400 people, with more than 13,000 intelligent agents running in homes, offices and other scenarios every day. These intelligent agents will help Midea save costs by 700 million yuan in 2025.
More importantly, MevoX, the self-developed self-evolving home intelligence, realizes high-order reasoning and continuous memory capabilities, and can accurately understand user intentions, such as actively adjusting equipment in core scenarios such as air and water, allowing the home to shift from “waiting for instructions” to “active service.”
In terms of interaction, the upgraded “Xiaomei AI” supports multi-dialect mixed commands and voiceprint recognition, which can be easily used by the elderly and children, truly lowering the threshold for intelligent use.
At present, Midea has completed the AI layout of more than 150 categories of home appliances, with more than 140 million smart home appliances connected to the Internet and 150 million smart users connected globally, forming a huge data base to feed back technological iterations.

Market data has verified Midea’s breakthrough power.
According to Euromonitor International certification, Midea has been officially certified as the world’s number one smart home appliance sales brand in 2025.
In 2025, its smart home business revenue will reach 299.927 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.28%, firmly ranking first in the industry.
Overseas, Midea’s own brand (OBM) business revenue accounts for more than 45% of smart home overseas revenue. The number of countries covered by its self-operated branches has increased from 27 to 50, and it ranks first in 32 sub-categories in Amazon’s core markets of North America, Europe, and Japan.
This means that Midea is successfully transforming from “Made in China” to “global brand”, breaking the traditional perception of the high-end market.

Despite its impressive achievements, Midea’s smart home road still faces challenges.
The industry price war continues, and its ToC business gross profit margin will drop from 28.1% to 26.2% in 2025. The “premium” of intelligence has not yet been fully reflected in the fierce competition.
At the same time, interconnection is a common problem in the industry – different brands have different agreements, and users may need multiple apps to control the device, which is contrary to the original intention of intelligence and convenience.

Midea is actively responding. On the one hand, it participates in the formulation of international standards such as Matter, and explores underlying innovations such as StarLight technology. On the other hand, it promotes ecological openness and cooperates with Huawei, BYD and other companies to realize the interconnection of “people, cars and homes”.
In the future, Midea plans to invest more than 60 billion yuan in cutting-edge scientific research in three years, deepen the application of “home brain” and “factory brain”, and promote the leap from “device intelligence” to “scenario intelligence”.

Overall, Midea has gained a firm foothold in the smart home field by virtue of its deep technological development and market accumulation.
The key to continuous breakthroughs is to transform AI capabilities into user-perceivable value and define new standards for smart life in an open ecosystem.
