The pace of internationalization of China’s construction machinery industry has accelerated significantly this year. It is no longer just the “big guys” that go overseas in high profile, and more small and practical domestic machinery and equipment are becoming the new favorites of overseas markets.
“Small” products such as mini excavators, small lawn mowers, and electric tricycles are relying on their own advantages to stand out in the fierce global competition, and a large number of orders continue to pour into domestic factories.
Once these “micro artifacts” become popular, they will often set off a wave of new categories.

In Jining, Shandong, where the industry is concentrated, a company specializing in small and micro excavators has integrated live streaming of goods into its own workshop to promote products on-site to global customers.
This lively display method quickly attracts traffic with the help of overseas social networks.
Initially, it was just because a Norwegian review blogger posted a mini excavator experience video, which was viewed more than 4 million times, that he became famous overnight due to his small size and low price.
Interestingly, the current overseas purchase price of these hot-selling excavators is only 1/3 or even 1/4 of similar foreign products, thanks to more than 80% of the local industrial chain supporting facilities and efficient supply network.
Not only that, the company can now export more than 260 units every day, and has extended logistics to overseas warehouses. Customers can pick up the goods directly at the destination. Production capacity and channels have both broken through. Overseas sales are expected to account for 75% in 2025.
With the rapid changes in the market, companies are actively making a fuss around lightweighting and scene customization.
The main purpose of many foreign buyers purchasing mini excavators is for home yard maintenance, which has extremely high requirements for volume and operational flexibility.
Companies within the industry chain are rapidly exploring more subdivided directions. For example, some entrepreneurs have reverse-used technology originally used for road surfaces on lawn mowers to develop new products that are more suitable for the European and American markets. With Jining’s intensive parts supply, they can quickly respond to even niche customization needs.
The new products have taken advantage of the trend to penetrate into European and American households and self-employed individuals, avoiding homogeneous price wars and simultaneously increasing profit margins and growth.

Not only Shandong, but also electric tricycles in Suining, Sichuan are also catching up with the international market window period.
Local companies have won customers in South Asia, Central Asia and Africa with product lines covering multiple scenarios, and even specially developed voice prompts adapted to six languages. After obtaining overseas access qualifications, orders will easily exceed 100,000 units in 2026, and overseas business has jumped significantly, accounting for nearly 40%.
Faced with the explosive growth in production and sales, many factories have even had to expand production and build new factories to meet the continuous international demand.
The “counterattack” of small and micro excavators, lawn mowers, and electric tricycles actually reflects the changes in the global segmentation of Chinese manufacturing.
It relies not only on low prices, but on the overall strength of scenario innovation, supply chain integration and service implementation.
Compared with bulk exports in the past, Made in China today pays more attention to user needs, product differences and quality upgrades.
What do you think will be the next “little guy” to become popular overseas?
