In April 2026, the price of building materials will increase across the board, and decoration costs will rise significantly.

In April 2026, the national market for renovation and building materials saw a wave of widespread price hikes. With price increases across the entire supply chain—spanning everything from waterproofing products and coatings to cement and furniture—homeowners planning renovations are facing budget crises. This article analyzes the reasons behind these price surges and offers practical advice for those undertaking renovation projects.

In April 2026, the national decoration and building materials market will explode!
From waterproofing and coatings to cement and furniture, products across the entire industry chain have collectively increased in price.
Many leading companies have issued price adjustment letters one after another, which can make friends who are planning to renovate have a tight budget.

Building Materials Market

On April 16, Dongfang Yuhong, a leading company in the waterproofing industry, announced that engineering waterproofing prices will increase by 3% starting from April 30 –
8%, which is already its third price increase this year.
Subsequently, brands such as Beixin Waterproof and Keshun also followed suit and raised prices.
The coatings industry has not been spared either. Sankeshu has seen prices rise by 3% to 25% since May 1, and PPG has seen the highest increase in the world, reaching 20%.
Cement prices in Southwest and North China have increased by 30 to 60 yuan per ton. Shunde furniture has been caught in the dilemma of “if prices rise, no one will buy them; if prices don’t rise, they will lose money.”

Building materials with rising prices

So, what is the reason for this surge in building materials prices?
The root cause is the sharp rise in international crude oil prices, which has driven up the prices of all chemical raw materials.
Among them, asphalt increased by 53%, acrylic emulsion increased by 47%, epoxy resin increased by 30%, and core raw materials increased by 28% – 53%.
As a result, companies have been forced into a desperate situation. Taking Oriental Yuhong as an example, its revenue in 2025 will be 27.6 billion, but its net profit will be only 113 million, with a net interest rate as low as 0.4%, the lowest level in ten years.
Under such high cost pressure, it is really difficult for companies to maintain operations without raising prices.

This wave of price increases has been transmitted from upstream raw materials to the terminal decoration market, causing home decoration budgets to generally overrun.
For friends who have renovation plans in the near future, here is a reminder: if you can determine the renovation materials as early as possible, do so quickly to avoid subsequent price increases; if the materials have been determined, lock in the price quickly to prevent temporary price increases.
The cycle of price increases for building materials has arrived. Only by acting in advance can you reduce renovation costs as much as possible.

Some netizens believe that the profits of Chinese companies are too low and they often rely on volume and overtime to obtain meager profits, while European companies mostly produce high value-added products, and American companies have greater profits, so there is no need to engage in price wars with each other.
Some netizens also joked that if you buy the rising building materials and decorate them seriously, you may end up selling them at a loss.
In short, this wave of building material price increases has brought a considerable impact to the decoration market, and everyone needs to deal with it with caution.
