Google Home major update, domestic smart homes face challenges

This week, Google rolled out comprehensive updates to global users, featuring expanded automation capabilities for Google Home and a revamped Nest Cam player. This upgrade, in the works for months, elevates the smart home experience to new heights and has drawn significant industry attention, potentially posing a challenge for domestic smart home providers.

The sun shines into the house in the morning, the sweeper has automatically recharged, the coffee machine has just finished dripping the last drop, and the camera at the door accurately captures the delivery delivered.
There is no need for you to speak or use your hands during the whole process.
This week, Google officially pushed the Google Home automation extension and Nest Cam player remake update to users around the world.
This system-level upgrade, which has been brewing for several months, has directly moved the smart home from “working by listening to commands” to a new stage of “growing your own brain and working”.

With this update, Google has completely torn off the stupid label of “you call me to move” in smart homes.
New automation functions have reached out to four corners: security, home appliances, lighting, and entertainment.
You can set the sweeper to stop immediately when the lights are turned on; the camera automatically disarms when the door lock is opened; even the status of the washing machine and the opening and closing angle of the curtains can be set to follow the conditions.

The Nest Cam player on the other side is also completely rebuilt from scratch.
In the past, checking monitoring was like looking for a needle in a haystack, and the progress bar made my hands ache.
Now it has added a smooth timeline, 10-second fast forward and rewind, and can directly filter out key scenes such as “package appears”.
The most considerate thing is the “familiar face” function, which directly kicks out those useless photos that are blurry, far away, and cannot be captured clearly, and the accuracy of recognition increases sharply.
Even the old cameras produced in 2021 have taken advantage of the Gemini large model this time and can automatically generate event descriptions.

“I used to search for videos and pull out blockbusters, but now I jump directly to the key points, with text summaries written by AI next to them. It’s like paying a professional security guard for nothing.”
Many digital enthusiasts who have early access to it are crazy about Amway online.
Everyone generally feels that this is what automation should look like, truly achieving “senseless interaction”.

The product director of one of the top smart home brands in China could not sit still, and said frankly in private: “Google has decentralized such complex condition triggering and AI vision into basic applications, which has directly raised the industry threshold. In the past, we thought that picking up a large model was a gimmick only for high-end phones, but now
It seems that basic AI active services will soon become the standard bottom line.”

According to IDC data, global smart home shipments are expected to exceed 400 million units this year, but more than 60% of the devices are still in the single-point control stage of tapping with your mobile phone and shouting with your mouth.
Google’s move this time is very precise. It uses the power of Gemini’s large model to turn a pile of scattered equipment into a judgmental nervous system.

From manual to voice, and now to conditional automation, smart homes have finally crossed the threshold of “pseudo-intelligence”.
This wave of operations by Google not only allows new and old guys to have the same experience, but also steps down the threshold for writing automated code.
The competition in the future will definitely not be about a few light bulbs and sockets, but whose AI brain understands life better.

When you start to make your own decisions about all the electrical appliances in your home, do you feel that your hands are completely freed, or are you worried that your privacy cards will be exposed by the algorithm?
Do you dare to completely hand over your home to AI?
