Foreign trade increased by 15% in the first quarter, and employment and wages in these industries increased astonishingly

China's total import and export value reached 11.84 trillion yuan in the first quarter—a year-on-year increase of 15%—driving job opportunities across multiple sectors. This article reveals which industries offer salary increases of over 30%.

If you are looking for a job recently, or want to change to a more promising track, go to the job fair now and you will find some subtle changes.
Those who frequently appear on recruitment posters are no longer the stereotyped “sales representative” or “administrative clerk”, but rather unfamiliar names such as “PLC engineer”, “cross-border logistics supply chain manager” and “African commodity procurement specialist”.

The new opportunity you feel is not an illusion.
Behind this is China’s total import and export value of 11.84 trillion yuan in the first quarter, and a year-on-year growth of 15%.
As the foreign trade engine roars forward, the job opportunities it drives have been accurately anchored on several tracks that you may not have fully seen yet.
These opportunities are concretely changing some people’s paychecks and career paths.

The “main force” of foreign trade exports has changed from clothing and toys to products with higher “green content” and “intelligence content” such as electric vehicles, lithium batteries, and transformers.
This directly reshapes the employment needs in the factory.

In Xiaochang County, Hubei Province, at a circuit board company called Quanchengxin, robotic arms operate accurately in the workshop, and workers monitor the automated production line in front of the control screen.
In the past three years, this company, together with several other mechanical and electrical leaders, has added a total of 12,000 new positions.
This is not an isolated case.

In Chongqing, after the completion of Chuneng New Energy’s lithium battery industrial park, 6,000 new jobs will be directly created.

But the most “fragrant” thing is not the general workers.
With the transformation of smart manufacturing, PLC engineers who can program and debug automated production lines have become the most sought-after talents in the manufacturing industry.
The entire industry has a shortage of more than 1.44 million people, with an average of only one suitable candidate for every six positions.
In manufacturing centers such as Suzhou and Shenzhen, companies have been competing for jobs with high salaries all year round.

This means that if you master this technology, the salary is 30% or more higher than that of traditional positions, which is a very realistic choice now.

Another “shortage” appears in the aftermarket of new energy vehicles.
There are less than 20,000 new energy vehicle maintenance companies in the country, but there are less than 100,000 technicians with the ability to repair the “three power” systems (battery, motor, and electronic control).
As a large number of new energy vehicles are about to “out of warranty”, a new profession called “tram doctor” is emerging. Technicians who can conduct in-depth analysis of battery data can earn a very considerable income.

Just a few days ago (May 1), a policy that directly affects your shopping and employment took effect: China has fully implemented zero tariffs for 53 African countries that have diplomatic relations with it.
This means that the cost of South African red wine and Kenyan coffee beans you buy in the supermarket will drop directly.
But more importantly, it acts like a magnet, attracting a large number of new job opportunities.

In the China-Africa Building in Yiwu, Zhejiang, there are 63 foreign investment entities gathered, more than 80% of which are African merchants.
As soon as the policy was implemented, the boss of a local import and export company made a calculation: the import volume of African agricultural and sideline products is expected to increase by 60% this year.
This means that more procurement specialists and cross-border e-commerce operators are needed to handle these businesses.

This opportunity isn’t just at the coast.
In Hunan, a company imported South African wine and directly saved 5 million yuan in annual costs because the tariff was reduced from 14% to zero.
Part of the money saved will be passed on to consumers, and the other part will probably become the budget for recruiting several new sales and marketing personnel.

Relying on the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, Hunan’s imports from Africa increased by 27.2% last year. These imported coffees and golden crabs need people to distribute, store and deliver. This is the new rice bowl for inland areas.

The most vivid example is in Africa itself.
A Rwandan pepper planting company called Fisher Global has expanded its planting area from 15 hectares to 300 hectares because it obtained an export license to China.
What about the company’s employees?
From less than 10 people, it skyrocketed to 631 people.
The rubber processing plant in Côte d’Ivoire invested by a Chinese company directly employs 2,500 local workers.

These job growth occurring thousands of miles away will eventually be transformed into demand for domestic logistics, customs, business consulting and other positions through the trade chain.

When physical goods flow around the world, the “nervous system” that serves them also expands.
This is the foreign trade supporting service industry, and it is facing the most serious talent shortage.

On the recruitment website, positions such as “cross-border logistics supply chain manager” and “AI marketing consultant” have been marked as “extremely in short supply.”
A qualified cross-border logistics manager needs to be proficient in the entire link from overseas warehouses to last-mile delivery, be able to handle customs clearance policies of various countries, and be able to use data tools to optimize costs.

For such talents, the salary in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions is 30%-50% higher than that of traditional foreign trade positions.

The work content of future foreign trade salesmen is also changing drastically.
He may no longer need to manually send emails day and night to develop customers, but he must be able to use AI tools to analyze overseas market data, do content marketing on TikTok, and be able to provide customers with customized solutions.
“From selling products to selling solutions”, this kind of compound talent – who understand foreign trade, understand data, understand marketing, and understand a little technology – is exactly what companies are looking for.

So, back to your original question: With foreign trade growing strongly, which industries have more prominent employment opportunities?

The answer is already clear: green and smart manufacturing, the trade chain with Africa activated by the zero-tariff policy, and the digital service side that supports all transactions.
These fields no longer need “taiwan balm”, but are eager for people with “diamond diamond” – whether it is PLC programming, battery testing, cross-border supply chain management, or using AI for overseas marketing.
Your opportunity lies in the skill gap from “I know a little bit” to “I am very professional”.
