Cross-border e-commerce in Taishan District: Transformation of traditional foreign trade, special products going global

After weathering industry-wide growing pains, the cross-border e-commerce sector in Taishan District has revitalized itself with new momentum, driven by a robust industrial ecosystem and innovative service models. Through a combination of platform development by industrial parks and incubation services provided by enterprises, innovation-led growth has fostered distinctive industrial clusters, helping Tai'an's unique products reach global markets.

At noon on January 28, in the live broadcast room of Tai’an Yuanwang Cross-border E-commerce Industrial Park located in Xujialou Street, Taishan District, the anchor was promoting products to overseas netizens in fluent English.
In the warehouse outside the live broadcast room, blind boxes, toys, trinkets and other small crafts are neatly stacked. These products will be shipped by air or overseas warehouses to consumers in the United States, Russia and other places.
This is a vivid slice of the development of cross-border e-commerce in Taishan District, and a clear portrayal of the transformation of traditional foreign trade into digitalization and globalization.

Cross-border e-commerce industrial park scene

In Taishan District, the cross-border e-commerce industry, once described by practitioners as “surviving a crisis”, is developing strong new momentum for foreign trade by relying on a complete industrial ecology and innovative service models after experiencing pains such as tariff fluctuations and tightening overseas supervision.

The park’s platform: “dual platforms + four bases” to create a “one-stop platform” for cross-border overseas expansion

Entering Tai’an Yuanwang Cross-border E-commerce Industrial Park, the 3,000-square-meter office space is reasonably laid out, clean and comfortable.
In the service reception center on the first floor, staff are handling business for the company; in the industrial cluster center on the second floor, corporate employees perform their duties; in the product display center on the third floor, there is a dazzling array of rural revitalization products and small handicrafts such as pancakes, pet food, cosmetics, etc.; in the talent incubation center on the fourth floor, training activities are carried out in an orderly manner.

“Since our establishment in 2022, we have aimed at new cross-border e-commerce formats and made every effort to build two major platforms, ‘Yuanwang Taishan Cross-border’ and ‘Taihaopin’, with four supporting cross-border e-commerce incubation bases, talent training bases, commodity experience centers and live streaming bases. This is to help local enterprises, especially small, medium and micro enterprises, open up overseas links.” said Ding Xuewen, director of the comprehensive management department of Yuanwang Digital Technology (Shandong) Co., Ltd.

“For different markets, we have different operating strategies. For example, we use English anchors for Europe and the United States. For the Russian market, the platform has a front-end foreign language interface and a back-end Chinese page. Even beginners can easily get started.” Ding Xuewen introduced that in order to reduce corporate operating costs, the industrial park has introduced one-stop service providers to provide closed-loop support such as digital trade, cross-border settlement, and international logistics. It has also signed an agreement with China Telecom to allow settled companies to enjoy dedicated line services below market prices.

At the same time, the industrial park actively connects with mainstream cross-border platforms such as TikTok, Temu, DHGate.com, N11, WB, and Coupang to explore new models and new paths for the development of cross-border e-commerce. It has built 8 professional cross-border e-commerce live broadcast rooms to carry out live broadcast business for key markets such as Southeast Asia, the United States, and the Middle East, promote small handicrafts and other specialty industries to go overseas, and help more Taian specialty products go global.

In the product display center on the third floor of the park, a beautifully packaged cat food is particularly eye-catching.
“This product used to be poorly packaged and had little room for premium when exported. We suggested that companies adjust the packaging design according to the consumption habits of different countries. Now not only the order volume has increased, but the price has also increased.” Ding Xuewen pointed to the exhibits and said that the park has also actively connected with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the “Belt and Road” Federation of Industry and Commerce, introducing foreign guests and foreign businessmen for inspection and negotiation, helping companies obtain overseas orders and expand the global market.

Currently, the industrial park has attracted 15 cross-border e-commerce companies to settle in, serving more than 150 foreign trade companies, and will achieve revenue of more than US$30 million in 2025 alone.
Ding Xuewen said that the industrial park is not only a physical space, but also an aggregation platform for talents, resources and services.
The industrial park also cooperates with universities to carry out talent training, and signed a cross-border e-commerce industry-education integration agreement with Shandong Foreign Trade Vocational College to train cross-border e-commerce talents.
In addition, the talent training plan implemented in the park can deliver 200 professional talents to major factories and enterprises every year, solving the problem of “labor difficulties”.

Enterprise office scene

Business incubation: Accompany you from “0 to 1” to help local manufacturing go global

If Yuanwang Park is the “soil”, then service providers like Shandong Feiyu Network Technology Co., Ltd. are the “gardeners” who sow seeds.
In the office area of Shandong Feiyu Network Technology Co., Ltd., the staff are focusing on checking the merchant’s backend data and studying optimization plans.

As a local channel of Alibaba International Station, Feiyu Network focuses on providing “from 0 to 1” full-link foreign trade incubation services for enterprises in Tai’an and surrounding areas.
“Many companies want to do foreign trade, but don’t understand the process. We start from scratch and teach them step by step how to do cross-border business.” Yuan Zhongwei, the company’s general manager, said that from guiding export qualification applications to assisting in opening cross-border e-commerce stores, completing account registration and page design; from product promotion, logistics customs declaration, to financial exchange collection and talent training, we provide one-stop foreign trade solutions.

Nowadays, the integration of AI technology has greatly improved service efficiency. “With the AI native technology of Alibaba International Station, novice merchants can start operations in 7 days.” Tai’an Ruiop Rope Industry Co., Ltd. is one of the beneficiary companies.
Originally, the company was only engaged in processing and supplying goods to foreign trade companies. Later, it wanted to do foreign trade on its own but was unable to start.
With the full support of Feiyu Network, this company with more than 18 years of rope production experience has successfully transformed, and its monthly foreign trade sales can now exceed 40 million.

From October 2022 to now, Feiyu Network has successfully incubated 230 new enterprises, served more than 500 enterprises, and cultivated 8 demonstration star enterprises. In 2025, it will incubate more than 100 new foreign trade enterprises in one year.

In addition to offline assistance, the company also expands its business boundaries through new media.
“We launched the ‘Sales Star’ project, organized employees to learn new media promotion skills, and also purchased courses in the ‘Make a Friend’ live broadcast room to enable employees to achieve digital transformation.” Lu Wenjuan, the company’s general manager, said that this method not only promoted the company’s business, but also attracted many potential customers engaged in domestic trade and even small traders, injecting fresh blood into Tai’an’s foreign trade.

“In addition to online services, we will also organize companies to visit and study large companies in Hangzhou, Shenzhen and other places, and invite industry experts to share.” Lu Wenjuan added that the company uses the “offline training + online empowerment + field inspection” model to help companies broaden their horizons, obtain orders, grow from foreign trade novices to foreign trade experts, and help Haopin, Tai’an Manufacturing, and Tai’an Intelligent Manufacturing at the foot of Mount Tai go global and achieve rapid growth in export business.

Innovation-driven: Create a characteristic industrial belt and forge new advantages in foreign trade

In September 2023, China (Taian) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone Taishan Park officially opened, marking that regional cross-border e-commerce has entered a new stage of systematic and large-scale development; in 2025, the Taishan District Construction Machinery Industry Belt Workstation in Tai’an City
Winning the “Excellent Case of Shandong Cross-border E-commerce Characteristic Industrial Belt Workstation”, Shandong Lupu Technology Co., Ltd. (rope and cable industry), an enterprise in the region, was successfully selected into the provincial list of leading enterprises in the integration of domestic and foreign trade, becoming a demonstration force in promoting the integrated development of domestic and foreign trade…

Driven by continued policy guidance and corporate innovation, the development of foreign trade in Taishan District has achieved solid results. Cross-border e-commerce, as a key engine, not only expands new growth space for enterprises, but also provides an important path for the transformation and upgrading of regional traditional foreign trade.

Fan Xinyi, a staff member of the Foreign Economic and Trade Section of the Taishan District Commerce Bureau, said that now, cross-border e-commerce exports in Taishan District have formed leading categories such as textiles and clothing, engineering machinery and equipment, and auto parts, and a number of benchmark companies and service platforms have emerged.
Among them, Shandong Renault Clothing Co., Ltd. was rated as a cross-border e-commerce comprehensive service platform in Shandong Province, and Shandong Feiyu Network Technology Co., Ltd. was recognized as a provincial cross-border e-commerce incubation pilot institution.

“These results are progressive, showing the comprehensive upgrade of Taishan District from enterprise cultivation, platform construction to industrial belt creation, and new advantages in regional foreign trade competition are steadily forming.” Fan Xinyi told reporters that in the future, Taishan District will continue to deepen the construction of a comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zone and strive to improve the park’s service functions and production.
By strengthening business incubation, strengthening professional talent training, supporting overseas warehouses and other model innovations, we will systematically build a regionally competitive cross-border e-commerce support system, and strive to create a cross-border e-commerce development highland with strong radiation and complete services, so that more good products at the foot of Mount Tai can expand the global market through the digital wave.
