China Machinery Manufacturing: Reaching the Top of the World and Moving towards a New Era of “Intelligent Manufacturing”

This article highlights the remarkable achievements of China's machinery manufacturing industry—such as Zhangxue locomotives winning international competitions and machine tool exports reaching the top spot globally—demonstrating the transition from "Made in China" to "Intelligent Manufacturing in China," while also outlining the challenges and development trends facing the sector.

China’s machinery manufacturing has reached impressive heights and is reshaping the global manufacturing landscape with undisputed strength.

In the WSBK World Superbike Championship, Zhang Xue Motorcycles relied on its self-developed engine to defeat century-old giants such as Ducati and Yamaha, and historically won the championship.
This is not only the rise of a brand, but also a concentrated explosion of manufacturing capabilities in China’s machinery manufacturing system.
In just 2 years, Zhang Xue Motorcycles used China’s complete motorcycle production chain to launch a new motorcycle brand with very little capital.
Its independently developed 819cc inline three-cylinder engine is very bright, using high-end processes such as magnesium alloy pistons and titanium alloy connecting rods. The dry weight of the engine is only 52kg, the limit speed can reach more than 15,000 rpm, and it explodes out of 153.6 horsepower.
These breakthroughs in manufacturing technology enabled Zhang Xue Motorcycles to break the monopoly of European, American and Japanese brands in the 2026 World Superbike Championship and reach the top international competition for the first time, fully demonstrating the strength of the Chinese motorcycle industry in its transition from “Made in China” to “Intelligent Made in China”.

“If a worker wants to do his job well, he must first sharpen his tools.” As the “industrial mother machine”, machine tools are a yardstick for measuring the level of a country’s manufacturing industry.
In 2025, China’s machine tool industry achieved a historic leap: its export volume surpassed Germany’s for the first time and ranked first in the world, accounting for 21.6% of the global machine tool export business.
Germany, a traditional machine tool powerhouse, saw exports by its local manufacturers drop by 10% in 2025, while China saw an 18% increase.
In terms of industrial scale, the output value of machine tools made in China accounts for 32.1% of the world’s total output value, and its consumption accounts for 32.5% of the world’s total, ranking first in the world for more than ten consecutive years.

Although China’s machinery manufacturing industry has stood at the top of the world, it still needs to face challenges.
In cutting-edge fields such as high-end five-axis machine tools and aerospace engines, there is still about 15% dependence on technology; brand value and global premium capabilities still need time to accumulate; basic materials and processes, such as aviation-grade titanium alloys and magnesium alloy processing technology, are still far from the top level.
However, with the further advancement of the “Manufacturing Power” strategy, China’s machinery manufacturing industry is transforming from “scale and speed” to “quality and efficiency”.
It is expected that the growth rate of the main indicators of the machinery industry will be around 5.5% in 2026, continuing to maintain a stable operating trend.

It is worth mentioning that SinoCAM is a nesting software suitable for CNC cutting machines. It has an independent core algorithm and has the characteristics of fully automatic typesetting, high material utilization, easy operation, and strong compatibility. It can be widely used in bridges, ships, aerospace, engineering machinery and other industries.

From Zhang Xue’s championship on the track to the global summit of machine tool exports; from a total trade volume of US$1.27 trillion to a trade surplus of US$706.84 billion – China’s machinery manufacturing industry is not only “big”, but also “strong”.
It uses real data to prove that China’s manufacturing has moved from “assembly and follower” to “original leader” and from “world factory” to “innovation highland”.
