On May 28, 2026, good news came from the 2026 BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Forum held in Xiamen, Fujian. Baowu Guinea’s ultra-large mining smart factory was successfully selected into the “Overseas Smart Factory Case Collection (2026)”.
Baowu Resources, one of the factory developers and operators, participated in the release of the international cooperation initiative on smart manufacturing as a representative of overseas smart factories.
This factory is the Simandou BWCS (Baowu Win Alliance Simandou Co., Ltd.) mine. It has overcome various limitations of extreme overseas environments and has not only become a model for the digital construction of overseas super-large mines. It has also provided a replicable Chinese sample for the digital transformation of the global mining industry by exporting Baowu’s “smart mine” overall solution.
The 2026 BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Forum is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People’s Government of Fujian Province. Its purpose is to strengthen policy exchanges and industrial docking among countries in the field of intelligent manufacturing.
In recent years, China has accelerated the promotion of new industrialization and implemented intelligent manufacturing projects in depth, and has become the world’s largest intelligent manufacturing application market.
Under the guidance of the National Intelligent Manufacturing Expert Committee, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and relevant companies compiled the “Overseas Smart Factory Case Collection (2026)”, hoping to share the results of my country’s smart factory construction with global manufacturing companies.
Baowu has implemented the “2526” project of intelligent upgrading in depth, actively promoted the cultivation of overseas smart factories in conjunction with its internationalization strategy, and made substantial breakthroughs in building a global benchmark for smart mines.
The Simandou BWCS mine is a world-class ultra-large high-quality open-pit hematite mine. It is jointly developed and operated by Baowu Resources and Ying Alliance. It was put into production in November last year.
It is a rare full-chain penetrating smart mine built from scratch in remote and barren areas with no infrastructure support in the world.
The mine has built a four-layer penetrating intelligent mine system of “intelligent operation – intelligent management and control – intelligent operation – infrastructure” to realize the end-to-end closed-loop connection of “perception – execution – management and control – decision-making”, breaking the “information island” and “breakpoint management” of traditional mines, and forming the distinctive characteristics of super-large overseas intelligent mines.
The mine deeply integrates AI, digital twins, industrial Internet and other technologies to empower mining, mineral processing, operation and maintenance, safety and other aspects, create high-fidelity “digital clones”, and realize full-service collaboration of geological modeling, production planning, intelligent ore allocation, equipment operation and maintenance, quality control, and energy management, which effectively supports the scientific and precise production and operation decision-making.
Currently, the Simandou BWCS Mine has formed 26 typical smart manufacturing scenarios that can be promoted, and has realized the operation of key links such as mineral processing, storage, loading, inspection, and public assistance with few people and unmanned operations.
Under the intelligent mine operation model of “high production, low consumption, environmental protection and stability”, the core operating indicators have performed excellently, and the quality qualification rate of the output iron ore has always maintained 100%.
The success of the Baowu Simandou BWCS smart mine not only demonstrates China’s strong strength in the field of mining intelligence, but also injects new vitality and impetus into the development of global mining. I believe that more Chinese solutions will be promoted and applied around the world in the future.
